Causal Reasoning in Complex Systems

This project deals with a model-based analysis of human information processing. A complex system must be processed by humans at a certain level of abstraction in order for it to be represented in a cognitive way. The central topics of this project are, which information of a complex system at a particular time are available in working memory and at what point support through technical assistance systems are useful. A cognitive model will be developed with the cognitive Architecture ACT-R (Adaptive-Control of Thought Rational) which simulates an operator. This cognitive model will be responsible for performing an error-check on CAMS (Cabin Air Management Systems). The knowledge of the processes of selection, analysis and interpretation of information gained through the cognitive model will be of paramount importance in the field of human-machine systems and could provide support in the early-development stages of technical systems.
