Research areas

Research conducted at the chair focusses on cognitive modeling in engineering applications of dynamic human-machine systems. In doing so, three areas are of particular interest:

  • Support in interface development (especially in early stages) for evaluating systems and being able to detect and prevent user errors early, before the system actually exists. Related usability studies with small samples might be conducted after an initial evaluation, since cognitive models are able to replace a number of analysis cycles.
  • Prediction of behavior and behavior-related errors in task performance, e.g. when switching tasks or switching from known to unknown or changed systems.
  • Gain deeper understanding of human-technology interaction and derive cognition-based design guidelines for developers and engineers.
