The goal of the research focus "Mobile Interaction" is to experimentally test, model and evaluate the use of smartphone applications.
Cognitive modeling plays a vital role in the evaluation and improvement of the usability of smartphone apps. On the one hand, the developement and comparison of cognitive models can help to understand cognitive processes that play a role during the use of technical artefacts. On the other hand, established models of user behavior can help to predict the usability of new apps in early phases of their developement.
One research aspect within this context deals with typical challenges arising with the use of apps, such as disruptions or distractions, both resulting from external environmental influences or smartphone- and app-specifica.
Another research focus deals with the question how certain structural and design decision regarding a smartphone app can influence user expectations, attitudes and behavior.
